#2 way to increase your survivability on an airplane: wear natural fibers.
Wearing nylon pantyhose, wicking sports shirts, and the like, will slow your exit because you'll either be on fire, or your clothes will be melted to your body.
#1 way: Actually look back and forwards in a plane and look for the nearest exit. Most people will try to escape forward, or from the door through which they entered.
