DNC- Iraq War Veterans March & Speak Truth About the War as Cops at the DNC surround and threaten to gas and shoot them.

Re: U.S. Marines/Iraq War Veterans Cornered & Threatened
(p.s. this video also has Ron Kovac, most famous for Tom Cruise portraying him in the film, Born on the 4th of July.)

These guys got duped by the Obama campaign. Obama's handlers knew that Americans would lose their sh!t to see cops beating up on Iraq War Vets who were only peaceably gathering on public property.

It's one thing to see cops beat up on Code Pink or liberal hippies. But this wouldn't stand.

Of course, the Vets here were taken in by a promise from Obama's handlers that is, of course, empty.

Say no to corporate politics.

Amazing link. This ain't on mainstream news.

There is a wrong assumption in your writings that anyone in the Obama camp has any say over the actions of the Denver police.

But that said, this is headline material.

That is true. However, have you heard the Democrats say anything about the stuff that's happening practically on their doorsteps? I haven't. Mmm, I wonder why ...

The delegates are in the arena having a highball and most of them arrive by limousine. Do you think any of them know what's going on outside the walls of the arena?

Re: U.S. Marines/Iraq War Veterans Cornered & Threatened
Actually, of course the delegates know what's going on out there. (in between their highballs... :)

How else could Obama's camp have learned about the Vets protesting and sent a representative out there to control them?

I'd like to respectfully say that it's you who is wrong about whether the DNC has control over the Denver police.

The cops on the scene called their superiors who called the reps inside the DNC. And then the DNC came up with this plan to dupe the Vets and keep it off the news.

And add in all the violence we've seen this week? These cops have clearly been given instructions to break the Constitution and keep protesters in the ghettos.

As WW pointed out, you don't see any of the, ahem, "progressive" Dems standing up for any of these protesters. Except in this case, and that was just to get 'em out of there.

Now that said, I don't think the Dems are all powerful. That would indeed be a larf.

Rather the Dems take their marching orders the same as the cops do. The real power is the money behind the politicians.

It's kind of like with the media. You may get a liberal reporter, but he's told what to write by his editor who's told what to publish by the owner of the paper.

Same with a cop told what to do by his police chief who got it from the mayor who got it from the governor who got it from the DNC who build and protect their image with the banks and corps and media behind them.

That totally how it works. Follow the money.

Re: U.S. Marines/Iraq War Veterans Cornered & Threatened
I don't necessarily buy the fact that anyone working with or for Obama, the DNC or any attending delegates was involved. The veterans were appeased by someone but I don't recall inspecting the credentials up close.

I don't think I play the skeptic quite as well as you do (intended as a compliment, honestly) but I thought I'd give it a go. ;-)

The violence last week? I think your trickle-down analogy holds a lot of water (badly mixed metaphors on my part). It probably didn't start much further up than the mayor, however. I'm not naive but I realize that the governor of Colorado doesn't have much to do with local police enforcement. He can, however, declare a state of emergency and bring in the National Guard to wrest control of the situation.

More than likely, in this case the headlines and films at 11PM of vets getting their heads bashed by any sort of law enforcement was the sole cause of cooler heads prevailing and seeking a peaceful ending for the night.

So speaking of how it ended... does anyone know what happened the following day? Did the vets get to read?

Re: U.S. Marines/Iraq War Veterans Cornered & Threatened
Thanks - actually, that's a nice compliment! Sometimes I worry I have a tendency to come off as the local conspiracy troll. :) But then I'm always open to being shown when I'm off or wrong.

And as far as what happened next...

--Two members of Iraq Vets Against the War did get to enter the convention and meet with Phil Carter, head of veterans affairs for the Obama campaign.

--But they didn't get to read their letter.

--IVAW is waiting for a response as to when/where they can read their letter.

I believe IVAW was never going to be allowed to read at the convention. Perhaps never anywhere. As a member of Veterans for Peace, this is disappointing to me. But the Obama campaign is light years above the Cheney/Bush administration in terms of listening.

And on the note of trickle-down coordinations, the Denver Police Department said they coordinated this meeting with the secret service and Obama’s office. (see! see! ;) But in light of their facilitation, maybe the cops weren't *all* bad...

To be honest, I don't think the cops are bad per se. I think they're the sharp tip of a very, very long spear that gets shoved around a little too much.

And btw, thanks for the awesome debate on this. Just because we may disagree on some points, I'm always stoked to see your intelligent take. I meant to add that part in my last post... :)

Re: U.S. Marines/Iraq War Veterans Cornered & Threatened
Generally, I agree.

I don't think Obama is gonna be the greatest reformer there ever was. He's as corporate as any other politician in this system.

But the stakes are too high in this election. Unless your ready to start the next revolution, it may be wise to vote for Obama.

He is clearly the better option this election.

None the less, I have followed the protests myself and the lack of coverage, and the overreaction of the cops is distubing to say the least.

If this is the DNC, imagine what the RNC is gonna be like?

I saw recently where houses, where protestors have been gathering to prepare for the RNC, are being raided by the cops on BS warrents simply to intimidate them!

Anyway. Good vid.

Re: U.S. Marines/Iraq War Veterans Cornered & Threatened
Interesting comment. Indeed, the RNC is going to be a lot worse, and not just speaking in terms of cops versus protestors. I just looked up the expected speakers: Bush II, Cheney, the First Lady, A'nold, and oh my! Not to mention the Repugs' VP, whose voice nearly drove me up the wall last time I heard her. (Have you seen the video where she does the God bless America thing and McCain edges closer and closer to her and she slowly backs away until it dawned on her McCain wanted to kiss her? (what a sentence.))

I really thought Schwarzenegger was more intelligent.

Again, Obama is a much much much better choice than McCain. I said a while ago that McCain would be worse than Bush II.

There also are many Independents this time, which I applaud; but if these people scatter their votes, McCain might become the so-called laughing third.

Hippies could learn something from those vets about how to protest.

If this wasn't covered on mainstream news then it's an appalling disgrace. I cannot think of what would be more deserving -- those vets fought for the country (or that was their intent, anyway).
