Why Kubrick Used
This is from a doc of 1963 with Arthur C Clarke about a wired world and artificial intelligence.

Re: Why Kubrick Used "Daisy" for HAL's Death
Recently, I saw an interview with Arthur C. Clarke, where he refers to the song as "Daisy Daisy", so which is it really, just plain Daisy or DaisyX2?

In any case, other than being a historically significant tune, it was also a disturbingly good choice, as one of the lines in the lyrics is "I'm going crazy...", as sung by HAL, it almost sounds like a confession.
