You may say anything you want, except the truth ...

This guy is lucky he's got himself a name. Otherwise, the authorities would have softened him up a little.

In NYC you can't say the N-word in a public forum.

Sure you can, watch this.

Nigger.

It's just a word. It's a series of sounds represented by a series of letters.

You're right, you can say it in New York City. You'll be breaking the law, but you can do it.

Re: Mos Def Getting Arrested at the MTV VMA's
You're all whiners. Free speech is alive and well in the U.S. In fact, at many public events, authorities officially designate FREE SPEECH ZONES! You don't get any more FREEDOMY than that! Sure, these zones are often located miles away from the actual events themselves(see the Denver DNC convention), but once ensconced in them, you can do anything you wish. Unfortunately, some uppity Americans don't think that the Free Speech zones are sufficient, and attempt to exercise their Free Speech prive....uhh right at the sight of the actual event. These people are asked to leave one time. Fair warning! If they don't retreat to their designated Free Speech zone, well, the authorities have no choice but to lock them up. (See DNC convention secret jails). Yay, us!

What I'm saying is the only problem the police had with Mos was that he used the "N-word". As of this spring, in NYC you can go to jail for dropping an n-bomb in a public forum.

And what I'm saying is that being arrested for saying anything non-threatening ("I'm going to kill you with a rake") is the exact opposite of free speech.

It doesn't matter if it's hateful, disruptive, or even meaningless. There isn't a single (non-threatening) thing you can say that should put you in jail.

Absolutely! As they say, "sun-light is the best disinfectant."

Even if the word is being screamed at a KKK rally, they have a right to it.

It's a uniquely American freedom, and it needs to be preserved.
