Detention camp Setup for DNC Protestors
Denver officials weren't planning to reveal details about where activists would be detained in the event of mass arrests during the Democratic National Convention until after the event had started, but those plans were quickly dashed this week when CBS 4News reporter Rick Sallinger not only revealed that protesters would be locked up in a city-owned warehouse, but he also obtained clear video footage inside the facility, a building that includes barbed wire-topped cages and signs warning of stun-gun use.

"...Very reminiscent of a political prisoner camp, or a concentration camp."

" I mean, that's how you treat cattle. And then you showed that thing where it says 'stun guns in use.' And, I mean, just change the word 'gun' for 'bolt,' and it's a... meat processing plant!"

No, hippie. That's how you treat children who act like ignorant little monkeys. That's what the cops need to do to control over-privileged suburbanite kids with white-man's guilt who think they're accomplishing something as meaningful as what MLK did--even quoting him--when they leap immediately to civil disobediance without ever reading a word of "Letter from Birmingham Jail."

Stop being melodramatic, and focus on organizing an effective protest, if you must protest. (Though, have you really exhausted the prerequisite means of civil action?) Don't worry if the place looks scary. The fact that the cops are preparing for mass arrests is actually laudable. It means they're trying to prevent the inhumane conditions that come with over-crowded jails. It means their officers on the ground will be trained on how to respond without escalating violence, and will be less likely to react on an emotional level.

However, if you contrast the reaction of the ACLU to those of the two punk-ass hippie kids, you'll understand why I donate to them every year. Those were my reactions, exactly. Where are the bathroom facilities? Will they have medical staff on hand? How long will they prisoners be there before they can make their phone calls? Are you prepared to billet people if their detainment continues over night?

In short: stop giving a bad name for those of us who do give a damn, and are trying to actually affect change, rather than just make ourselves feel good by yelling into megaphones.
