An example of the lengths Beijing has taken to project a perfect image for China during the Olympics. A 7-year-old girl was replaced after officials deemed her face was "not suitable" for the opening ceremony.
Instead, an older girl with a perfect smile lip-synced the words to "Ode to the Motherland," which had been recorded by the youngster.

In all, I think I've seen 30 seconds of the Olympic Games. That includes this footage and Bush II (sitting next to his bitch) studying his watch and 'waving' an American flag. I think 30 seconds is just fine. Any more would be nauseating, any less would have robbed me of a few sneers.

haven't you learned by now that America has the balls to be shocked and offended by a whole myriad of things that it has done itself? Hypocrisy is part of the American credo. It's right there one the dollar bill.

I think we need Chewbot's input on this one, if one of us is to be proven correct. I think it boils down to how one interprets his/her/its comment.
I read his comment as him being semi-surprised/offended that the US should be shocked by this event. His belief that America had perfected lip syncing and fake performances, not so much hypocrisy.
My comment was more focused on the hypocrisy of the US government AND its citizens. What's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander, or some crap like that.
Regardless of what Chewbot meant, you must admit that his comment is open to interpretation.

I think I read too much into his comment (if that is the expression). Reading it again, he may indeed just have focused on the lip synching. The tone of it was, as you say, semi-surprised (actually feinted surprise)/offended.
