LED Hard Drive Clock
This is a hard drive clock built from a 3.5" hard drive, some tri-color LEDs and a PIC16F252 microcontroller. It works by shining the LEDs underneath a platter with a slot cut into it, and by timing the various colors it can produce an analog clock display as well as other patterns.

Pretty tight. Too bad it tells time backward. Without reading the technical stuff, I assume that is a limitation of the direction the hard drive spins

Just set it in a case horizontally with a mirror at 45 degrees. Problem solved.

it sort of sucks that it makes so much noise when it spins.
