Does anyone know where dust storms like this occur? That is totally insane and I would be convinced the world was coming to an end.

This one is, however they also occur every summer in Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

They happen every year at Burning Man in northern Nevada. The dust there is white and baby powder fine, so one needs goggles and a filter or shelter to weather it well. They are called white outs, for obvious reasons. Visibility can drop to arms length at their most intense, but it doesn't go black. YouTube's got mountains of footage.
