The Wallflowers: One Headlight
The second single from The Wallflowers' 1996 album, Bringing Down the Horse. The song won two Grammys in 1998 and peaked at #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. It was named "Best Video" for 1996 in a VH1 poll. The song was performed live on the 1997 MTV Music Video Awards with Bruce Springsteen. It was also sung by Phil Ritchie on the 2006 TV show Rock Star: Supernova.

Literally, the lyrics tell a fragmentary story about a former friend and her death (they said she died easy of a broken-heart disease), and the singer's emotions in the aftermath (man, I ain't changed, but I know I ain't the same). The use of strong words and images (through this maze of ugliness and greed), (it smells of cheap wine & cigarettes / this place is always such a mess) and the incomplete story have resulted in many different interpretations of the song, which include suicide, drug abuse, death of a lover and depression.
