Finally Someone Says This (Al Gore)
Al Gore in part of the best speech he's ever given (and I hope one he really meant) saying what is rarely said about the threat America currently faces.

Is this speech in response to a particular issue? Or is he speaking about the general attitude of the government in recent history?

Re: Finally Someone Says This (Al Gore)
Oh yeah? Did all those previous generations face the end of cheap carbon fuels and sky high flat-screen TV prices?
I mean, come-on Al, there are two, maybe three, overt U.S. wars going on somewhere, and I don't see your lapel pin!

no. no its not. not in the slightest. He would have been a great president. I really lost faith in a lot of Americans when people thought that the bush - gore debate was even close.
Of course we did vote him into office but thats a different topic.

Re: Finally Someone Says This (Al Gore)
It's all about fear and this phony left/right battle. Gore's spent much of recent history promoting fear for his own political and financial agenda. The Bush regime have promoted fear for their political and financial agenda. They win - we lose. Surreal to see Gore chatising others for what he's been doing himself but there you go. If you lean to the 'left' you believe in cataclismic global warming and you support his agenda. If you lean to the 'right' you buy into the war on terror and support that agenda. As long as we're afraid and we give our power away, that's the important thing, eh.

Re: Finally Someone Says This (Al Gore)
Americans who're reasonably good at math are more scared of their car than of Al-Qaeda. The scientifically literate see an ecological problem that's been allowed to grow for centuries. Some may overestimate the problem, but there's certainly not been a broad overreaction to the problem.
Fear has its value, if it's not crippling, and doesn't make us become stupid. It can be the first step toward a solution. Or it can be manipulated for social control.
The U.S. has been profoundly damaged by disproportionate fear of crazy men with bombs and scary accents. In that sense, terrorism is accomplishing its goals, with the help of the U.S. government. That's why it's called 'terrorism'. What I don't see is how excessive fear of ecological collapse will damage our civilization.
I find it profoundly exciting that there's an energy renaissance beginning to take shape. It's time for the next thing.

Re: Finally Someone Says This (Al Gore)
"Is our congress today in more danger than were their predecessors when the British army was marching on the capital?"
...Actually yeah. It is. At least back then we knew where to put men to fight off the British. We don't know where terrorists are, where they'll strike, or how they'll do it.
Regardless of what Gore's addressing, I think he's an idiot if he can see the dangers to the lives of Polar Bears but he fails to truly analyze the dangers to the lives of our countrymen.
