Re: George Carlin: Dennis Miller Live, 2001
Miller's a great person to interview Carlin; he's a keen listener and very sly.
Carlin's comment that "nerds" are, basically, unpopular social misfits is less true nowadays. Nerds... Being smart in today's culture is a quality that all women find very attractive. They like powerful mates, and intelligence is essential for that to be.
Unless you're born rich or a prissy model it seems awful clear that ya gotta be somewhat of a good thinker to get ahead in this job market. Mentally slow types tend to get the shaft in life. They get the jobs at WallMart.
You can't just be smart -- you have to know how to apply it.
Fine. The argument could be made that the existence of HotChicksWithDouchebags.com is proof enough shitheads can still get 10s.... BUT, I still know for a FACT my own good looks never get me what I wanted with girls (foot in door at least). They always liked my charm.
(No - I'm not being arrogant you twit. I'm being frank and forthcoming)
Effective charms, like mine, require enough intellect to operate (just enough, apparently). You gotta be witty and strategize well - and you have to not look like your doin' it, either. If women think you're significantly dumber than them, they will lose interest in your worthless ass fast ('less they do one nighters).
So, the best way to avoid that is to just be smart. Gotta be.
As for the rest of Carlin's comments, I'd say the old twisted sage is calling it right. Ugly way to view it... but I think it is the only honest observation. How else do you explain things like Bush and mindfuck media and most things religious in the US. The country is afflicted with ignorance, apathy and moron patriotic fervor?
Sometimes I wish my boring ass countrymen could be as exciting.
True, we have lots of dummies too: Alberta is one of our largest produces. We just don't have a big enough military nor as many hostile religious. Not fair, I know. All we really get are hockey fans.
Yippie.

The truly hip meets the faux variety.
Hey Dennis "is that a Mexican poncho
Or is that a sears poncho?"

That's an astute observation of Miller. Yer absolutely right: the guy often comes across as contrived. And with Carlin in the room, his forced laugh becomes even more pronounced.
Still, Miller is no idiot -- he listens and often asks good questions. Sometimes, he makes a decent funny.
Miller is not bad for a comic that supported the Bush admin. I honestly never thought that anyone with any wits could take such a viewpoint. Intelligence and belief in Bush just does not go together.
Sure, Karl Rove is a quick wit too. But, that's because he is not exactly human. Rove is the result of genetic splicing: human, pig and cockroach DNA mixed to create the ultimate super neocon scum-sucker swine.
