Not Working?
Cars that run on compressed air, take the same amount of time to refuel as our cars now, and will get better mileage for only a few dollars per tank.

Re: The Compressed Air Engine and Air Car
I don't understand why the French guy's using a piston engine. I'm sure he's thought this through, but it seems like he could do much better with a more direct drive mechanism. The animated diagram even shows an exhaust stroke, just like a two-stroke internal combustion engine. The Austrailian guy's engine seems much more efficient.
But really, the most important component of the French car is the explosion-dampening air tanks. That could go in anything that uses batteries for mechanical applications, and greatly reduce the use of toxic, heavy, short-lived batteries.
Maybe these two could team up and make a bigger version of the go-cart engine for the cars to go from L.A. to New York, and back again!

Re: The Compressed Air Engine and Air Car
This is an excellent gasoline replacement option as gas station everywhere already have air compressors.
Now if we can find a technology that can produce the long ranges without using petrol.

Here in California, Gas stations are legally required to give free air and water. I don't think that's what the law had in mind though.
The compressed air is not a fuel, it's a battery. It's a way of storing energy which comes from another source, like an electric compressor or the on-board petrol-fueled compressor.
