That's why the Brits should've done it. If it had been a French book, 'les' would've jumped at filming it, and made a great job. But...would Hollywood have distributed it in the US? Of course not (no big bucks there), you got the unsubtle remake of a good tv and great radio series adaption of a wonderful book. Panic.
