Re: Daily Show: Holistay
While watching this dark yet very funny bit, I found myself both laughing and getting angry, with the uneasy feeling that TDS is taking a good, hard schadenfreude swipe at The People, with Jon obviously playing Abbott to Hodgman's Costello from the dark side of the force.

After years of allowing themselves to be told what and how to think by the All Anna Nicole (later Britney Spears) All-The-Time News Networks. After allowing themselves to be scared witless by non-stop, disproportionate coverage of white female, middle-class victims of crime and/or "the gays" getting married. After years of mindless escapism via American Idol, Survivor and Big Brother (what a name!). After allowing their already softened minds to be electorally poisoned by nonsensical terms like "flip-flopper", "stay the course" or "Obama the elitist, out of place at the Applebee's salad bar". After giving their government tacit permission to deregulate everything - - - Phase Two, your friends at the Pro-Big-Business/Brangelina Channel now gives you a feature on Your Holistay. After bread and circus, all you got left are stale crumbs and peanut shells on The People's floor. And still the bread and circus for the millions continues, 24 hours a day, and hey, you too can be a McDonald's dollar menunaire, as long as you don't mind what the hell you're eating.

In his prescient book The Demon Haunted World, Carl Sagan made a direct correlation between a nation's level of scientific (critical thinking) education and its' citizens' quality of life and rights as individuals. What TDS just parodied here made me very angry at the current state of things, which is, The People as the proverbial boiling frogs.

Re: Daily Show: Holistay
I just saw how my post came out and jeez, sorry for the rant, the second paragraph looks like an intimidating mess, although it's coherent.

Anyway, in a nutshell, this sketch is yet another excellent example of why The Daily Show is one of the most important programs on television today. Nothing brings the truth home harder than humor.

Re: Daily Show: Holistay
Don't worry. A hyphen between Demon and Haunted would have been nice, though.

Yeah, too bad there's not an "Edit Post" or at least a "Preview Post" option here on M&C. It's not easy proofreading in the small white "Post Comment" square.
