Re: Attenborough: Amazing DIY Orangutans
Seeing an ape deliberately cross water in a boat blew my mind.
Thus just reinforces my belief that in many species, as with humans, there are geniuses.

I think Sir David was a little blown away with what he was seeing. I thought it was incredible too, but what were the apes getting out of it, that is my question?

Re: Attenborough: Amazing DIY Orangutans
They reveal later in the documentary that the orangutan that does the washing likes to lather up the fur on her arms and then lick off the soap and therefore associates the whole process of washing clothes with the opportunity to eat soap. You can also see the orangutan that is sawing wood eats some of the sawdust at 2:05, so what they get out of it is food. However, there is no immediate food reward for paddling in a boat and the orangutan seems to actually understand what a boat is for, which is truly amazing.

One of the Orangutans reminds me of Walter Matthau.

It amazes me that Mr. Attenborough keeps coming up with all these things. There's always a little wow factor in all of the clips on this site.

Thanks. I appreciate it. Let's see if the issue is rectified. I'm sorry to say the last time this happened (not involving you), nothing was done. If someone is interested: http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/161568/detail/ & http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/167440/detail/. Rather blatant, I say.
I don't mind people posting duplicates, because it sure happens accidentally, but when nothing is done to fix it ...
