Paul Ruben's actions notwithstanding, how did he get a children's show using the same character used in a Cheech and Chong movie? Did the LSD not yet wear off for the TV programmers in the early 80's? I love Cheech and Chong movies and watched Pee Wee every Saturday as a kid, but this has always bothered me.

Ha I always thought that too. But hell, look at Jim Henson's stuff the "Street" is some whack ass stuff.
I've hear of stories of the "fun times" they had over the years with those projects.
And now even today, that psychedelic atmosphere resides in all these new kids programing (especially Disney's). Bright-ass colors, lots of movement, sparkly things and constant room for excitement.
Half Baked is a good example of a movie that took the principles of all those youthful ideas listed above and implemented them back into an adult oriented flick.
