A Quoi ca Sert L'amour?
A great little bit of "Ah, what the hell is life?" animated short.
Set to an Edith Piaf and Theo Sarapo duet.

Great animation (and I'm a big Piaf fan), but I couldn't figure out the story. Is the story we see in the animation following the words of the song? I don't have enough French to know.

Re: A Quoi ça Sert L’amour?
Nope. The title of the movie means "What's love useful for?" and sounds much less awkward in French.

Re: A Quoi ça Sert L’amour?
So to put in the American idion:
"LOVE! Ungh. Good God, y'all. What is it good for?"
"Non, riien de rien. Non, je ne regrette rien" might be more appropriate.

Re: A Quoi ça Sert L’amour?
umm..lemme see...
Guy is lonely/jealous of other couples. Guy finds girl (piano? wtf?). Guy and girl fight and makeup later. guy and girl go out to circus. guy has all the fun, girl is angry for being left out. she resents all the stuff he's done w/o her, but realises she still loves him. Guy brings her flowers but no one is home (he thinks she left him). girl picks up guy and reassures him she still likes him. They're apart for a little bit, and guy gets paranoid about girl going off with..everyone! girl comes back, more reassureance, victory! end...
that help?

Re: A Quoi ça Sert L’amour?
to clarify the merry-go-round part:
it's like a metaphor for him fooling around. (notice that it is a cat dangling from a string that he is grabbing for...hint hint what other word can we use for cat?) that's why she's mad, not because he's leaving her out.

Re: A Quoi ça Sert L’amour?
He starts off asking "What's the point of love, you hear so many ridiculous stories that I fail to see the point of it"
She says "Well, you can't explain love, it's just like that, it comes from nowhere and grabs you"
He's not convinced: "I've heard that love makes you suffer and cry, so what's the point?"
She replies "What's love for? It brings us joy - even when we've got tears in our eyes - it's sad and wonderful"
Then he comes back "I've heard that love cheats you - half of all people aren't ever happy"
She says "Even when you've lost it, the love you had leaves you a taste of honey - love is eternal"
He still isn't satisfied: "That's all very well, but when all's over and done, nothing's left but hurt"
She's got another answer: "All that seems upsetting now will be a memory of happiness one day"
At last, he's got it! "So, if I've understood, without love in you life, with its joys and sadness, you've lived for nothing"
Indeed! "Yes! look at me! I've always believed in love and I always will. That's what love is for. You are the last, and you are the first! Before you there was nothing, and with you I feel great. It's you I want, you I need, and you I'll love for ever. That's what love is about"
