Re: Live Action Role Playing
Because the demon4545.com link was posted yesterday and thge dc101.com link was posted months ago (2003-09-12 01:28:34).

Also, demon4545.com link you posted was put in the comments as an alternative location months ago (09.12.03 01:29AM PDT).

The reason we link to the dc101.com (dispite it's slightly lower quality) is that it's hosted at a radio station website. Not only does this make it so that the link is likely to have a long lifespan, but it can also handle massive traffic. The demon4545.com link is a personal website, meaning that once he hits his bandwidth limit, the content will probably disappear.

Plus demon4545.com has this message on his front page: "rip off my content, and i'll break your legs ."

Re: Live Action Role Playing
This is pathetic. I can't believe that these are grown men and women dressing up like super heros and villians and throwing wads of paper at eachother while yelling "lightning bolt!" Does anyone else find this behavior scary?

Re: Live Action Role Playing
No sir, the only thing I see as Pathetic is the fact that MMoRPG losers who spend 5 hours of their life scrounging for one lousy piece of armor are Bashing something that is almost EXACTLY what they do, although these LARPers arent scared of Sunlight or human contact. For the love of god go outside.

Re: Live Action Role Playing
People like to give LARPer's a hard time about dressing up in costumes and acting out battles, but having participated in LARP battles myself, I think that they are good social and physical excercise as well as being a lot of fun. Think about all the people who do nothing but sit in front of a TV or computer screen all day, people who only watch sports on TV or play "Fantasy Football". Personally, I think it's unreasonable to bash the concept of LARPing without also considering all the other pathetic hobbies we as human beings participate in. LARPing developes strategy skills, physical fitness, social skills, an encourages the use of basic life skills and problem solving. In my opinion, it's far more respectable than most of the things people occupy their time with.

Re: Live Action Role Playing
It's sad that anyone tries to justify or rationalize LARPing as "respectable" simply because there is a different type of moron who they can point at and call pathetic.

Lets also mention the fact that LARPing is sad simply because it is a bunch of adults acting like children, albeit with more money for costumes and a need to justify their actions.

You want good social & physical exercise? Turn off the computer, turn off the TV, stop LARPing, and go play some sports in your local city recreational leagues. Go swimming, rock climbing, biking, rollerblading, kayaking, canoeing, or just plain take a walk!

Re: Live Action Role Playing
Excuse me, but what I find truly sad is most of you calling each other names. Every person has their own tastes in hobbies. Some prefer boffer larping others find amusement in Dungeons and Dragons. Most of us can agree that card games such as poker or cribbage are also a form of entertainment. Is it so hard to imagine that some people can immerse themselves into a fantasy realm and not care what the world think as long as they're having fun?

It obviously doesn't affect those that don't have that hobby so why call them names? Simply put it's like a Rennaisance faire; you are the actors and the staff are the directors. Unlike an SCA event they don't use live steel so injury is rare. It does promote outdoor activity even in incliment weather. It does promote social activity and leads to friendships more often than not.

Oh and a good 60 percent of them have higher paying jobs, go on regular vacations, have families, go out to bars, and even throw parties where regular card games and social activities occur. They just have that added hobby thats all.

I know most of this because I in fact have participated in many events ranging from gaming conventions (Where larps, table tops, anime, science fiction shows, and artists gather), Ren Faires, White-wolf Larps, the infamous Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The gathering card game, and Events such as the link above depict which are called Boffer Larps.

However, those being few and far between I like most people around the globe do get out and enjoy hiking, a good game of poker, enjoy the rush of adrenaline when the roller coaster hits the top and is about to plummet, and most of all spend time with friends and family outside of gaming.

I'm sure everyone that posted to this in reply has their share of odd and peculiar hobbies. So folks please stop the name calling everyone on earth is different. If we were all the same life would be extremely boring.
