Indeed, that Dutch film is hopefully soon to be released. While I do not agree with all of Mr. Wilder's (director of the film, Fitna) views, we share a dislike (mild word) for Islam. He wants to ban the Koran, but I'm strongly opposed to banning books. His film isn't even permitted to be seen on television or in cinemas, because of the current crop of Dutch politicians. Idiots. Freedom of speech, anyone?

If some Muslim points a scimitar (whoops, wrong era; this is the 21st century - make it a AK-47) at your belly, and says to you as follows: "Allahu Akbar! Infidel dog," you can reply kindly or frothing at the mouth "Take a f00kin number and get back in line, pal" ... but that will only get you lying supine in the street or your house real quick. Luckily, we ain't living in that time yet. Maybe soon in Europe. You might one day witness Creationists making the rounds, instead of (radical) Muslims. Pax.

I couldn't care less if anyone chooses to believe in an invisible sky-father wishing-gnome...that's there business. When they start trying to dictate MY actions based on what they think their invisible sky-father wishing-gnome is telling them, that's when we have a problem. Religion should be treated like superstition...kinda fun and quaint, but no intelligent person really wants to admit to believing any of it.
Oh, and you didn't finish your comment...what, exactly, do you propose I "kindly" replay to the religious fanatic? There are three options:
1) When they peek through the windows, ring the bell of your house (and such stuff), press the red button (which can be easily installed next to your bed, easy chair, or whatever, and costs but a hundred bucks). A trapdoor will open and swallow the troublemakers. Additional fun comes in the form of rats, snakes, crocodiles, or spikes (like in Indiana Jones).
2 and 3) You'll have to order How to Survive in Encroaching Towelhead Territory to learn these. Neither involves kissing floors a zillion times each day.

I'd be a goner if I said nothing or spouted the most brilliant observation regarding religion. I look very much the heritage of my family. Yousef would surely fire the AK47 at me or give me the same treatment that Danny Pearl got.
Most Muslims are actually decent people, as we find in any civilization. While here in the northeast US we don't have the concentration that Europe has seen, they're already outnumbering Jews. I've yet to encounter one of Islamic faith that matches the ugly stereotypes.

Allow me to be the devil's advocate here and say that the problem here is definitively NOT islam. Its NOT christianity, catholicism, or religion in general. The problem here is DOUCHEBAGS. Violent, ignorant, radical pricks with warped sense of reality and fervent hatred for something they haven't taken the time to learn anything about or at least open their minds to consider a new perspective upon. Radical, violent thought stems from every religion, creed, lifestyle, culture, or you name it. That is the problem with our human culture, DOUCHEBAGS are born, DOUCHEBAGS grow up, and DOUCHEBAGS inflict warped views of reality involving atheistic, religious, violent, economic or otherwise on those that will not defend themselves or are not capable of doing so. To say "ISLAM is the PROBLEM" is STUPID and IGNORANT. to say "CHRISTIANITY is the PROBLEM" is STUPID and IGNORANT". And to say "ATHEISM and LACK of BELIEF is the PROBLEM" is STUPID and IGNORANT. I hope you see my point. People form all walks of life, religious, political, economic and so forth can agree that what this world needs is a hell of a lot more understanding, sympathy, self-sacrifice, and LOVE. Millions of Muslims (vast majority) all over the world condemn the radical hatred they see in the label they are associated with. Millions of Christians condemn the hypocrisy and and blasphemous ignorance of Pat Robertson and the like of other radical evangelicals. Many Atheists condemn the Smarmy, self-righteous tone of Dawkins and Hitchens and others that portray atheism as a "cold, intellectual, You are an idiot if you are religious" thought process saying it does more harm than good to the image of those that see a lack of evidence for (G)od. The petty arguing that occurs between groups of who is right, wrong, better, worse or otherwise is mired in our pathetic little 1700 CC brain that likes to lump concepts and peoples into nice, neat little categories and not spend a Goddamn minute contemplating the infinite complexity of it all. Solution? There isnt one..... EXCEPT, to Love thy fuckin Neighbor and Pray for Thy fuckin enemy. I am not a religious person, quite the contrary, i believe in the lack of a supreme conscious/aware being. This however does not discount the single fundamental message that emanated from the lips of every great political, religious, and sociological figure that didnt spread a message of killing. I could rattle a number of them off but this post would carry for two pages. It sounds like some hippy jargon to say that we only need love, but this world will eventually crumble upon itself if people do not realize that we are one peoples and that hurting another is hurting oneself and that selfless, random acts of kindness, generosity, but most importantly FORGIVENESS are the only things that will save us and separate us from the DOUCHEBAGS that threaten our very human existence. And that means loving and forgiving them too.

A valuable point, several thousand years of animosity and senseless hatred can not be resolved with a hug. However, the turnaround in mentality and will to forgive must begin somewhere. I will make the assumption, perhaps it is rash, that few people visiting and posting on this site are in positions of economic power or influence, able to contribute in a relatively large way to the workings and thoughts of the world. Albeit this, the revolution of thought, which entails how one thinks and has thought about, lets say in this case, a radical muslim, must change. No longer should we label them an "enemy" or "foe", but think of them rather as someone whom we do not understand and misunderstands us. When we detach the notion of desire for penance or justice (death, subjugation) from our thought processes about these people, understanding can begin and true feelings and sentiments of why this vile hatred exists can rise to the surface. Indeed genuine dialogue is the only hope for cure for the dangerous, deadly and selfish racial and national interactions that have plagued our species for millennia. As easy as it is to reciprocate feelings of hatred and animosity directed at us, that wheel must be slowed somehow, and waiting for the other side to assert themselves results in no progress. Even though most of us here can do little on a large scale to help the global dilemmas, the change of thought throughout society must begin on the individual level, for in can begin nowhere else. Perhaps you and I will see the day when a gun is pointed at our head and a bullet hurtles towards our skulls. But our manner of death is insignificant, our day is coming regardless. What is significant is the ensuring of life and survival for the (hopefully) thousands of generations to come and the rising of a new species (In either biology or philosophy) much more contemplative and less petty than ourselves.

My social studies teacher was so sure that islam would be a threat to my generation that he actually taught us how to say "allah is the one true god" in arabic because he was concerned for our saftey. All this at the risk of offending the christians in the room. This was about 15 years ago.
