That's pretty good stuff coming from a guy who has a sister who happens to be his cousin as well.

Re: The Argument from Oranges
If only these kinds of people could comprehend how utterly backwater-inbred-stupid they make themselves look when they open their mouths. Anybody with the most rudimentary understanding of evolution would laugh their arses off at such a suggestion.

I can only foresee two possible conclusions: either this man is a complete dolt with the scientific literacy of a three year old, or this man is intentionally presenting a contrived argument specifically to gain the sympathy and support of the creationists who have no scientific literacy because they're not taught to think for themselves (they're taught to live on faith, in preference to fact). The former would be pitiful; the latter, however, would be downright evil.

Kermit here seems to think genetic relation is something one is supposed to "believe" is true rather than, oh gosh, compare by genetic mapping. Not that we're particularly closely related to oranges, mind you...

Re: The Argument from Oranges
What an absolute idiot. The problem here is language, this simple-minded fool has taken Darwin's "related" (from a passage that is quite beautiful and in a non-deistic way, "spiritual") and equated it with familial relations such as "father" or "cousin." What a total dipshit, that is the furthest thing from what Darwin meant.

He should also consider buying a suit that's not three sizes too large.

Re: The Argument from Oranges
So if I use reverse reasoning, didn't God create all things from his own hands? So that everything is in fact related to God and therefore all of the same substance. Yeah yeah we supposedly have a soul from God, but those oranges were made of the same magic God dust.

When will the religious understand that religion should be taught by your family and religious leaders. The schools have no business teaching religion anymore than I would want that wonderful storyteller teaching bioengineering. Frankly, I think exposing children to the hardcore tenets of most religions at a young age, does more harm than good.

If you truly believe in the one true word of God, let the children be exposed to many types of religion and by faith they will find the truth and be one of the flock. If not, maybe you need to re-read that lengthy tome.

Evolution is a scientific theory based on scholarly observation, peer review, and physical evidence. Intelligent design is a weak connection between pseudo-scientific facts crafted to fit the needs of the religious stories in the Bible. And religion is a set of morals and fables meant to help early man deal with the frightening realization of the world and to find comfort in pretending to know what it all means.
