Colbert Report The Word: Medium Matters
The Constitution gives media the right to say anything, but not everyone has the right to listen.

From The Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert.

This is a scary point he makes. I can't recall anywhere in the constitution where we're given the right to Free Listening. If a political party got it in their head to do so, they could probably enforce sensorship of anti-governmental broadcasts by making it illegal to listen/watch. They can't stop people from speaking out, but are they allowed to make us stop paying attention?

Re: Colbert Report The Word: Medium Matters
they could try to do that, but since there is the internet they really can't prevent us from finding it, especially if its in our circle of communication like Milk and Cookies and what not. basically they can't legislate to prevent us from hearing it but they can buy the corporation who provides it and prevent it from being aired.

that's true... but they have tried to outlaw illegal pirating, but we all know how rampant that is (see above clip)

First Ammendment rights don't mean that you can say anything you want. It merely means that you have the right to post opposing viewpoints. You don't agree with Rush Limbaugh? Create your own network of radio stations to air your own viewpoint.

And then get bought out or taken over through a hostile takeover or get fined to bankruptcy by the FCC. Once you lose custody of you new network, Rupert Murdoch will buy it and play only to his own one sided monopolistic agenda.

Read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Anthem by Ayn Rand and Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk. Not really new subject matter for debate, but as important as ever.
